Red Mud Utilisation Red Mud –the waste generated from alumina plants is a tough complex and mixture of several oxides posing a threat to environment apart from causing loss of resources-enormity of the problem can be imagined from the fact that as much as 2.5 to 4 MT of such wastes are generated per MT of Al produced. Over the years, very large quantity (2.8 Billion MT) of such Red Mud has been accumulated throughout the world, adding 140 million MT every year. Though several attempts have been made to solve this problem for decades, no satisfactory solution has been found. We have developed a patented technology for recovery of all major components of Red Mud, viz. Iron, Aluminium, Titanium by a combination of smelting, Carbo Chlorination and molten salt electrolysis technologies. Home
